Senior Adult Day Program

ClubGenki is an Senior Adult Day Program specifically for older adults ages 55 and older. “Genki” in Japanese means energy or healthy and is the core value that we promote through our daily activities for retired adults and seniors. By providing a healthy, nurturing, safe and socially stimulating environment, we hope to promote overall wellness focusing on one’s physical, mental, social and emotional well-being.

As a Japanese-based Adult Day Program, ClubGenki will incorporate Japanese and Japanese American culture throughout its programming. We hope to bring in daily exercise activities to include but not limited to taiko, Japanese drumming, martial arts for balance and safety and odori, Japanese traditional dance. ClubGenki will serve Japanese and Japanese American food through its daily meals and snacks and will also celebrate Japanese holidays throughout the year through cooking activities, crafts activities, and workshops.

Monday through Friday

9AM to 5PM

Program and activities will be held in Room 3 & 4 and Sugimoto Family Social Hall

*Space is limited to a maximum of 15 people

Keepers of the Flame Oral History Project

The Keepers of the Flame Oral History Project is a program dedicated to recording and preserving the experiences of Japanese Americans living in the San Gabriel Valley before or after World War II. Through Keepers of the Flame, it is our goal to gather the personal stories of our elders so that the younger generation may know the Japanese American experience.

To date, there is no comprehensive documented history about the pioneering role that Japanese American played in developing the San Gabriel Valley. Through the personal stories gathered, the current plans for the collected works will be to distribute them in the following formats: digital archives accessible to the community, publications, oral performance and readings, and documentaries.

Keepers of the Flame is currently looking to interview Japanese Americans that lived in the San Gabriel Valley before or after WWII. In addition, volunteers are needed to help with interviewing, transcribing, research, and collection of family histories. This is an intergenerational project so volunteers of all ages are welcome to join.
